ANNOUNCEMENT AFTER THE PRESS CONFERENCE OF THE NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (NEC) IN WARSAW.

 

 

On 10 October 2005 at 2.10 p.m. at the seat of the National Electoral Commission at ul. Wiejska in Warsaw, the final press conference was held concerning the first round of elections for the President of the Republic of Poland written for 9 October 2005..

The conference was chaired by the Chairman of NEC, Ferdynand Rymarz who officially and publicly presented the announcement of NEC on the results of elections for the President of the Republic of Poland  written for 9 October 2005 whereby the National Electoral Commission, based on the collective reports on the results of the voting received from all district electoral commissions, established the following results of the voting for the candidates for the President of the Republic of Poland:

a)       Elections were organized at 25 167 polling stations,

b)       Total number of eligible electors was 30 260 027,

c)        15 051 157 electors cast their votes,

d)       The turnout was 49.74%

e)       Total number of invalid votes is 99 661,

f)         Total number of valid votes 14 946 689,

g)       Majority required to elect the President (over half of the valid votes) is 7 473 345,

h)       The individual candidates received the following votes:

1)       BOCHNIARZ Henryka Teodora                             188 598, i.e.                1.26 % of the valid votes,

2)       BOROWSKI Marek Stefan                                  1 544 642, i.e.              10.33 % of the valid votes,

3)       BUBEL Leszek Henryk                                             18 828, i.e.                0.13 % of the valid votes,

4)       ILASZ Liwiusz Marian                                               31 691, i.e.                0.21 % of the valid votes,

5)       KACZYŃSKI Lech Aleksander                            4 947 927, i.e.              33.10 % of the valid votes,

6)       KALINOWSKI Jarosław                                         269 316, i.e.                1.80 % of the valid votes,

7)       KORWIN-MIKKE Janusz Ryszard                        214 116, i.e.                1.43 % of the valid votes,

8)       LEPPER Andrzej Zbigniew                                    2 259 094, i.e.              15.11 % of the valid votes,

Judge Ferdynand Rymarz announced that none of 12 candidates for the President received over half of the valid votes and, therefore, on 23 October 2005, the second round of the elections will be held.

 

In the 2^nd round of the elections for the President of the Republic of Poland, the votes will be cast on one of the two candidates named below who received the highest number of votes on 9 October 2005 presented in the descending order:

  1)  TUSK Donald Franciszek,

  2)  KACZYŃSKI Lech Aleksander.

 

Today, NEC adopted appropriate resolutions on the ballot card printing and the guidelines for the local and district electoral commissions,  mayors and heads of the administrative districts in connection with the second round of the elections.

 

The Chairman also provided information on a breach of the law committed by the Deputy Chairperson of the electoral commission at the hospital in Gdynia. She put 136 ballot cards to the ballot box with 1 candidate marked while the total number of eligible electors at the polling station was 36. Since the electronic system identified an inconsistency of the balance of the ballot cards, the criminal act was discovered and the Deputy Chairperson admitted to have committed it and was dismissed at the request of NEC. The prosecution will investigate the case.
